“The devil’s assault…”

£42.00

This cup is of a 15th century woodcut “the devil’s assault on the dying man is a theme that pervades all [medieval] popular tradition.” (From Alfonso M. Do Nola, 1987.) I found it printed in Silvia Federici’s Caliban and the Witch, a key volume on history of women in the transition from feudalism to capitalism. It makes me think of a dreamer confronting horrifying parts of their self in a nightmare… or a client on a psychotherapist’s cauch.
